Introducing...

Name: Lisa Miller

Age: 16

How did you get into dancing, and how old were you?

I was just 3 years old when I started callisthenics. It’s a uniquely Australian sport which involves a bit of ballet, gymnastics and different apparatuses.

My mum did callisthenics all of her life too and eventually became a coach so she got me into it and I instantly fell in love with it.

What do you like about Energetiks dancewear?

The only place I go to shop for dancewear is at Energetiks. Whenever I visit, I feel like a little kid in a candy shop because I’m drawn to the huge range of unique leotard designs and gorgeous colours. It’s a dancer’s heaven, I want to buy everything!

Do you have a favourite style of dance (if so what)?

Besides callisthenics I’ve been fortunate enough to be trained in ballet, tap and jazz. I enjoy broadway style jazz the best because I have a pretty old school taste when it comes to dance and it’s super fun!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

My greatest dream has always been to become a callisthenics coach. I’ve already started my training so I know I’m on my way. Whatever life throws at me I know that at least I’ll have callisthenics with me every step of the way. It’s my home, it’s everything I know and it’s what I do best.

What is your all-time favourite dance movie?

My favourite dance movie has always been Center Stage. I even did a Center Stage themed solo! I love it because it’s so real and I get to see characters live out the same passion and emotions that I have for dance and stumble over the same obstacles that I seem to face each week.

What is you best dance memory/moment?

I remember when I was 9 years old and I was awaiting a letter to tell me whether I had made it into the Victorian state team or not. When I finally opened the letter and saw the word ‘Congratulations’, I instantly began jumping up and down in tears. That was the first time I had strived for something so high in my life.

What’s your favourite saying or advice that inspires you?

My favourite advice would be to live and breathe your sport. I’m still discovering new abilities that I have everyday and instead of slowing down after 13 years I’m only getting better and better. If you want to succeed you have to put your heart and soul into it, take on advice and keep practising.
