Young talent: A chat with Michael Vesetas

Energetiks talks to talented young dancer Michael Vesetas about his ambitions, advice and life as a full-time dance student!

By Katerina

When and why did you start dancing?

I started dancing when I was 2 years old. My mum put me into dance because my older sister danced as well.

What are you doing now with your dancing?

I'm a full time student at Jason Coleman's Ministry of Dance Full Time Course. I’m hoping to get into Ministry’s Talent Agency and begin teaching my own classes.

What has been your most memorable event?

I have many memorable moments but the one thing that stands out is an opportunity I had performing in the Candy Man which is a musical.

Where do you see yourself in the future with you career

and what would be your

ultimate job?

I am hoping to dance on a cruise ship so I can dance and travel at the same time! I would also love to dance in and/or choreograph a musical!

What do you do when you're not dancing?

I practice any dance routines I've learned, even ones that I learned years ago, or I play AFL or karate!

What is your favourite style and why?

My favourite style is hip hop because it can be so technical but also so relaxed and easy moving. What I like most is there is always new things coming into hip hop or branching from it.

What made you chose dance as a career?

Moving to The Ministry of Dance gave me so much confidence, passion and love for dancing. Dancing is something I love doing and cannot stop doing! I love that I can always express myself and show my emotions through dance.

What is your advice to other dancers who are wanting to make a career out

of their passion?

Never give up. There will always be criticism – good and bad – take it all on the chin and learn from it. Most of all, don’t lose your passion and love for dance, as it's what drives me and most other dancers to become the best we can be.

What quote or saying do you live by?

Dance like nobody is watching. No artist is ahead of his time. He is time – the others are just behind the times.
