Holly - A day in my life
Hi Everyone! For those who don't know me, my name is Holly. I am training to be a ballet dancer at the Australian Conservatoire of ballet in Melbourne. This is a normal day in my life, I hope you all enjoy…
5:45am- Arrghh there goes my alarm, the piercing sound reminds me that a new day has started. Time to get ready to catch my daily train to Melbourne; I’m such a regular traveller I think I should get frequent flyer points. For a brief moment I picture myself travelling around the world dancing, Imagine where I could fly too with all those points…..I shake myself back into reality and get dressed and ready. From there I am at Warragul train station by 6:40am ready for my commute. If I’m not already awake the blast of cold fresh wind will do the trick. For those of you who don’t know I live in the country town of Warragul, it is situated in West Gippsland, just over 100 kilometres south-east of Melbourne. I arrive in the big city by 8:10am, and at dancing at 8:30am. 9:00am- We always start off with a warm up, I think warming up before class is extremely important as it helps prevent, not just injuries but prepares you for the day.
9:30-11:00-Ballet class is the first thing I do every morning, six days a week. We always start off with Barre, which is perhaps my favourite part of my day. It helps me to switch on those important muscles, and really gets me on my leg (little trick, always try and take both arms of the barre it will help you for your centre work as you will be more secure and balanced. 11:00-11:15-After every class we have a 15 minute break, which allows us to have a little snack and put our pointe shoes on- I like to call them pointe booties :) 11:15-12-15- At this time we do pointe class. 12:15-1:00- Lunch!! Every dancer should follow a healthy diet. The body performs at its best when filled with the the proper fuel. I find though a little bit of chocolate during the day doesn't hurt. :D 1:00-1:45-Today in Repertoire we're learning Kitri from Don Quixote, which is a very fun, flirtatious and vibrant variation. Repertoire is a mixture of variations from different ballets. 2:00- We begin rehearsals. At the moment we are rehearsing for 'The Sleeping Beauty', which we will be performing at The Hamer Hall Arts Centre in December. Rehearsals are great but hard work sometimes, but you always know that all that hard work pays off when the moment you step onto that stage. 4:00-All finished at ballet for the day. I usually have a little stretch out at the end of the day, as your muscles are extremely warm. So if you want to improve your flexibility this is the perfect time to do so! :) By around 6:30 I'm home, and all I want like to do is have a nice dinner and relax with my family. After dinner I jump into bed and set my alarm ready for another day. I go to sleep wondering of all the possibilities that tomorrow will bring…
Bye for now!
