Counting down to the Energetiks Victorian Dance Festival 2023!
The Energetiks Victorian Dance Festival is back and set to expand on the success of last year with an even more incredible lineup of instructors, events and audition opportunities for dancers in 2023. Returning for a second year to the iconic Melbourne Showgrounds, VDF has become known as one of the most highly anticipated dance events of the year, also offering an evening dance showcase featuring dancers and talent from all around Australia and the hugely successful Vitality Teacher’s Day, which features the world's leading experts in dance education, dance health and studio business management, movement classes from the industry's most celebrated and inspiring choreographers, and a fully catered day of knowledge and growth for teachers and studio owners. Held from April 14th - 16th at the Melbourne Showgrounds, it’s an opportunity not to be missed!
This year will also see the welcome return of classes for the littlest of dancers, with the ‘Mini Movers’ program on Saturday offering a range of classes tailored to dancers between the ages of three and seven. Older dancers will spoilt for choice by the diverse lineup of styles and instructors on offer across the entire weekend, including the likes of Cassie Bartho, Sophie Holloway, Gina Michael, Nadia Tornese, Arna Singleton, Jason Winters, Todd Patrick, Jarryd Byrne and many, many more. Originally founded in 2012 by Kate Meade to create a non-competitive environment that brings together people from different dance backgrounds and abilities, VDF has continued to grow in both scale and acclaim. Now welcoming thousands of dancers, dance teachers, studio owners, and dance parents from Australia and all across the globe to gather together and celebrate the world of dance. Staying true to its roots, VDF continues to foster a sense of inclusivity and community that makes dancers of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels feel welcome and embraced, whilst promising a weekend that will challenge and inspire each dancer who attends.
2023 will also see the return of much-loved industry icon Yvette Lee as the festival’s long-standing Artistic Director, who, alongside VDF Directors Deborah and Daniel Searle (founders and creators of Dance Informa) have been steadily pushing VDF to new heights. Previous VDF attendees will be glad to know the VDF dance market - an extravaganza of dance fashion, dance shoes, activewear, costumes, accessories, giftware, giveaways and food trucks - will be back to enhance the expierence. You can gain further information about full-time dance schools and associated courses, as well as dance related services providing insight and education in to the many innovative pathways one can pursue when seeking a professional career within the dance industry. Other exciting opportunities for career development include masterclasses/auditions for the Joffrey Ballet School, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line’s in-house production company, all held throughout the weekend. Over 40 dance companies, crews and schools are set to perform live at the the festival’s annual showcase, IGNITE, which will wrap up the weekend long dance marathon on Sunday night, a perfect end to an event that encapsulates all the things that make dance so special to us all.
