Abigail Oliveiro: Ballet Manila’s Principal Dancer & Energetiks Ambassador

Abigail Oliveiro’s journey as a dancer is nothing short of extraordinary. From her beginnings as a three-year-old in Singapore to becoming a celebrated Principal Dancer with Ballet Manila, Abigail’s path is a testament to passion, perseverance, and purpose.

From Singapore to the World Stage

Abigail Oliveiro’s passion for dance was evident from the age of three, when she began her training under her aunt, Ms. June Lee, in Singapore. Upon moving to Melbourne at age 11, Abigail continued her journey with the Jane Moore Academy of Ballet, progressing from part-time training to full-time dedication by 19. Her talent and perseverance were soon recognised, earning her a place with The Australian Ballet’s Dance Education Ensemble and a Silver Medal at the Asian Grand Prix. These early milestones paved the way for her professional career, which would soon take her to new heights.

In 2013, Abigail joined Ballet Manila, guided by the mentorship of Lisa Macuja Elizalde, and by 2018, she had risen to the rank of Principal Dancer. Along the way, she earned accolades including Aliw Awards’ “Best Classical Dancer” (2019) and Philstage Gawad Buhay’s “Outstanding Female Featured in Classical Dance” (2017).

Highlights and Achievements

Abigail’s career has been defined by extraordinary opportunities and unforgettable moments. Touring internationally, performing in prestigious galas, and sharing the stage with stars from companies like Staatsballett Berlin and Paris Opera Ballet are just some of the highlights that stand out to her. Reflecting on her recent whirlwind year of dancing a different ballet nearly every week, she says, “This kind of busy was a dream come true. I savour every performance because I never know when the next one will come or what it will be.”

Despite her many achievements, Abigail remains grounded and grateful for the journey. She credits her teachers in both Singapore and Australia for instilling discipline, passion, and a deep respect for the art form. “No matter where you go in the world, the ballet studio remains the same—a place of respect and camaraderie,” she shares.

Life at Ballet Manila

Ballet Manila has been Abigail’s artistic home for over a decade, and she holds the company close to her heart. She attributes much of her growth to its nurturing Artistic Director, Lisa Macuja Elizalde. “Her expertise is immeasurable, and her advice continues to inspire me,” Abigail says. The dancers at Ballet Manila also play a significant role in her journey. “The camaraderie is incredible, and my colleagues push and challenge me in the best way possible.”

Abigail’s experiences at Ballet Manila have helped her refine both her speed and agility, though she admits her heart belongs to the lyricism and storytelling of adagios. One of her favourite roles is Cinderella, choreographed by Lisa Macuja Elizalde, which she describes as “pure magic, with whimsy, heartfelt moments, and challenging technical elements that leave me utterly fulfilled.”

Lessons from the Pandemic

Like many artists, Abigail faced significant challenges during the pandemic, with months of lockdowns and a prolonged absence from the studio. Yet, she found silver linings in virtual teaching, reconnecting with loved ones online, and discovering new ways to stay creative. “The artist in me wasn’t fed, but the frustration and hunger kept pushing me,” she reflects.

During this time, Ballet Manila dancers were temporarily converted into teachers, a shift that Abigail credits with transforming her own artistry.

Aspirations and Advice for Aspiring Dancers

As Abigail looks to the future, she hopes to continue growing as both a performer and a mentor. “I’m not exactly sure what’s next, but I know if I stay passionate and excited, I’m on the right path,” she says. Her dreams include exploring new roles, revisiting cherished ones, and performing on stages around the world.

For aspiring dancers, Abigail shares this wisdom: “Find purpose in everything you do. With purpose comes intention, and with intention comes extraordinary achievement. Be bold, chase excellence, and never stop learning. And when times get tough, remember your purpose and stay patient.”

Energetiks: A Trusted Partner in Her Journey

Throughout her career, Abigail has relied on Energetiks for high-quality dancewear. Whether it’s salmon tights or her favourite Alexandra camisole leotard, Energetiks has been a constant in her life. “Energetiks has literally kept me on my toes,” she says. “Their support, especially during challenging times like the pandemic, means the world to me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”

Right now, her top three Energetiks go-to’s are the Isabelle Zip Leotard, Nova Backpack, and Athena Pointe Shoes—essentials that keep her feeling confident and performance-ready.

From story ballets to international tours, Abigail Oliveiro’s journey as a dancer is a testament to resilience, artistry, and gratitude. Her story continues to inspire dancers and audiences alike, proving that with passion and perseverance, dreams can become reality.
